Atonement – Confession and Sanctification

This Word prepares us to enter into the Day of Atonement. In these Ten Days of Repentance, we are reaching for the reality of sanctification and to see the Lord reveal to us the root of our transgression. In the full experience of sanctification, there is not only forgiveness of sin, but the nature that caused that sin is removed.

Saul could not find repentance because he refused to discern his sin. The dangerous state of deception that Saul lived in is a warning for us in these days. If we are able to discern our sin and confess it, then He will forgive us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9).

In this time of repentance, we are looking for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth. We start the process of our complete sanctification by refusing to deceive ourselves and by being open to His voice about what it is we need to confess.

With this Word, we reach for the greatest Yom Kippur we have ever experienced.

Growing The Ability To Speak The Truth In Love

This Word frees us to become a people who speak the truth in love, and it ends a spiritual culture that stifles our growth and prevents the birth of the prophetic community.

There are two key aspects to being a prophetic community. First, all of God’s people are to go up the mountain to hear His voice and see Him face to face. We are not to draw back as the Israelites did when they urged Moses to go up the mountain alone. Second, we take what we’ve heard from God and lay it on the table for confirmation by the prophetic community. Even a Word straight out of God’s mouth has to be confirmed according to God’s own principles.

As we go through this process, we will find all our answers in the living Word. We will study the Word and then practice it until we grow in it. Jesus is the Way and the Truth, and through Him, we will come into the true life of the prophetic community. Our goal is the fulfillment of Ephesians 4:15-16: speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

Individual Leadership Gives Way To A Matured Prophetic Community

This Word shows us how we are to walk through the great challenges ahead of us, as we move out of a hierarchical structure and mature into a prophetic community. Each of us must speak and prophesy the Word of the Lord. Our attitude during this transition is: This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:8-9).

Hierarchy was invented by the children of Israel when they refused to go up the mountain to hear the voice of the Lord and instead, they demanded that Moses go alone into God’s presence in their place. We are determined that every member of the Body of Christ will hear from the Lord individually and speak the truth in love. Individual leadership is giving way to the functioning of a matured prophetic community.

As we move forward, we will be careful to heed all the Word that God has spoken to us. Each one of us must boldly enter the Lord’s presence and hear and speak His Word. We will submit the Word we hear for confirmation. We will all supply a piece of the puzzle that will complete the beautiful picture of God’s Word. We throw off every restraint and every intimidation, for He will not forsake us or leave us. He will fulfill the covenant of His Lordship over our lives.

You Are Responsible To Speak The Truth In Love

The Lord has been speaking to us about our growth and maturity as a prophetic community, and this Word shows us the first step: speaking the truth in love. When each member of the Body speaks the truth in love to each other, we grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ (Ephesians 4:15). It is easy to rely on a hierarchical structure because it does not require the congregants to mature in the Lord.

Maturity requires something of each one of us. If we are to speak the truth, we must begin by waiting on the Lord, praying in the Spirit, and learning His voice. Learn the truth and appropriate God’s love to speak it. Our growth and maturity as a prophetic community requires that we take this step. By speaking the truth in love, we will create a greater flow of the living Word to each other and to the nations.

Our Goal As A School Of Prophets – Mature Sons Of God

This Word describes a new day in which the Lord is moving us out of a hierarchical structure into functioning as a family and prophetic community. We are to be a movement in which each member of the Body matures and takes responsibility.

The church was never meant to be a hierarchy, but to be a body of people growing up in love by that which every joint supplies. “Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love” (Ephesians 4:15-16).

We’ve heard this teaching before, but now we are going to do it. We must find a way to grow and become all that God has called us to be. Holy Spirit, teach us, lead us, and guide us as we move away from hierarchy into being a prophetic community.

Are Our Actions And Methods In Alignment With Our Beliefs?

This Word asks us one question that opens the door to the new day: Are our actions and methods in alignment with our beliefs? After being in the ministry for some time, Paul had a revelation that he needed to reevaluate and submit what he was doing, “for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain” (Galatians 2:2).

Are we running in vain? Are we missing the mark? Our founder John Robert Stevens’ revelation was that God wanted to establish a Kingdom under Christ’s Lordship. The direction and goal for this fellowship has always been the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the bringing forth of His Kingdom.

If we are to move forward with John Stevens’ vision, we must honestly evaluate our behaviors and our methods. Are we bringing our churches, schools, and families under the Lordship of Christ? Ephesians 4:12-13 describes our goal: for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

We begin this journey together by breaking bonds, creating an atmosphere of objectivity, and laying everything before the Lord.

We Create The Atmosphere For His Lordship

The foundation of our fellowship is the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and this Word sets us on the course to build on that foundation.

In a hierarchical structure, man is king and the people live in silence. In the atmosphere of the school of prophets that allows God to be King, the people are free to speak the truth in love and to grow up in all aspects into Him (Ephesians 4:15). The purpose of the five-fold ministries is to equip the saints, but it is the Body that builds itself up in love (Ephesians 4:16).

We must find a way to create the government of God’s Kingdom where He is the King who rules and reigns. In the days of Samuel, God saw Himself as King over Israel, even though it was Samuel who presided over the school of prophets. When the people rejected Samuel, wanting a king, the Lord saw it as a rejection of Himself (I Samuel 8:4-7). The heart of the Father is that He alone wants to be King over His people, individually and together as His family in the prophetic community. He does not want man to usurp His role in the leadership of His people.

Father, we invite You into our lives and into this prophetic community. We ask that You be our King and give us the grace to speak the truth in love. In every way that we have rejected You as our only King, we repent and we declare total freedom for Christ to rule over us as Lord.

The School of Prophets – God’s Kingdom Corporation

This Word describes how God is leading us out of the hierarchical corporate structure of the Church Age and into the government of His Kingdom.

As in the days of Samuel, the school of prophets is the atmosphere where God is enthroned as Lord and King, and only His presence is in charge. In that atmosphere, the expression of the human flesh nature is restrained and there is an authority that brings God’s presence (I Samuel 19:19-24). His presence becomes the answer to every problem and situation. This same reality is described in Acts 15 when the disciples gathered together to solve the problem of the Gentiles. It was not just one man who decided what to do, but all of them bore witness to God’s answer and to His presence that appeared to them through His Word.

God is righteous and holy. Under His Kingship, all things pertaining to life and godliness are given to the inhabitants of His Kingdom. Under the hierarchy of a corporate structure, human nature is able to usurp the blessing and the wealth for itself. With this Word, we recognize that by creating us into a school of prophets and a prophetic community, God has already given us the means to enthrone Him as King and to bring about the government of His Kingdom.

Our Bondage Is Not Our Fulfillment And Our Deliverance Is Not Our Destruction

This Word shows us how God wants to deliver us out of our bondage to other gods so that His Lordship is the only dominion over us. Just as it was with the Israelites when God was delivering them from Egypt, we can be so conditioned by the gods we serve that we would rather stay in bondage than to have God deliver us. At one point, the Israelites called Egypt the land of milk and honey! (Numbers 16:13). The symbiotic relationship they had with their state of bondage prevented them from seeing what God was doing for them.

Satan twists what God is doing to make it appear that our bondage is fulfillment and our deliverance is destruction. The truth is that God disciplines us as His sons so that we may come into His holiness and possess His promises. He wants to break us free from every other commitment and every other bondage that we have given ourselves to so that we may live purely in His Kingdom. In the process, we must not confuse His discipline with destruction. The truth of His Word must live in us so that we are not subject to satan’s lies about our deliverance.

Lord, we love Your discipline and we receive it gratefully as sons, knowing that You love us and are delivering us from all other gods that have had dominion over us.

Our Obedience Removes Our Spiritual Blindness

Our ability to see, to hear, and to understand what God has for us depends on the depth of our obedience to Him. God caused the Israelites to be spiritually blind and deaf because of their disobedience (Deuteronomy 29:4). When they were about to enter into the promised land, into a whole new day, Joshua said to them, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.” (Joshua 24:15). From that point on, their covenant with God was their individual choice about who they would serve: God or other gods. The Lord is speaking this same Word to us! Each one of us must choose this day whom we will serve, for when we come to Christ, we cannot serve two masters.

In this new day, the only thing that will make a difference in our personal walk with God is our obedience to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. To the degree that we are obedient, we will be able to see, hear, and understand what God has for us. Anytime we are under the dominion of other gods, we are spiritually blind and deaf, unable to see and understand Him.

The Lord said: “Render the hearts of this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes dim, Otherwise they might see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be healed.” (Isaiah 6:10). Today, we choose a greater obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. In our obedience, our spiritual eyes will be opened and we will hear His Word. We will turn to Him, please Him, and be healed, and we will possess the Kingdom He has for us.
