Sukkot: Eat Of The Fat And Drink Of The Sweet

On this Feast of Tabernacles Sabbath, the Lord gave us the keynote for this weekend out of Nehemiah 8. We’ve been through the Ten Days of Repentance and have experienced Yom Kippur. Now we are to eat of the fat, drink of the sweet, and send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. This moment is a time of rejoicing.

On this night, we drink the wine which God gave to make the hearts of men joyful, and appropriate the blood of Christ which releases us from sin and also brings the joy and blessing of the Lord. We give thanks to the Lord and eat the bread which God brings forth from the earth, and we also reach beyond into the realm of spirit to partake of Christ, our daily bread which comes down from heaven.
